Update: Impeachment court won’t wait for Corona, who is now at the ICU of Medical City. Enrile gives defense up to Friday to present their evidence. Oral arguments will be on Monday. After that, voting.
Thanks to Inquirer.net for photo Just when it seemed that Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona had scored with his almost three -hour long testimony, complete with tearful moments, at his impeachment trial he walked out of the trial! He just declared: And now, the Chief Justice o01 of the Republic of the Philippines wishes to be excused. Then he left the session hall.
Dean Nilo Divina of the University of Santo Tomas Faculty of Civil Law, who is one of ANC s panelists, said it beats any Korean telenovela. After some minutes of confusion Atty. Judd Roy, one of Corona s defense lawyers, came back with the chief justice s son-in-law, Constantino Castillo, who reported that Corona had hypoglycemic episode. He didn t have lunch and drank only coke.
He said his father-in-law has diabetes and towards the end of his testimony he felt his vision blurred. Roy said he hoped that the chief justice would be excused because of his slight medical condition and is now in a wheelchair. Anyway, the testimony can continue later.
Enrile, with the consent of all senator-judges, ordered the head of the defense panel, Serafin Cuevas, to bring back Corona today (Wednesday). If Corona fails to return, Enrile warned that said he would order the striking out of his testimony and will decide on the basis of the evidence on record.
He washed the dirty linens of his wife s family o01 to explain why they did not invest in properties and instead put their resources in foreign currency deposits. He did not however, disclose, how much is his dollar o01 deposits except that it is not $12 million as stated by Ombudsman Carpio-Morales.
As to the core issue why it was not included in his Statement of Assets and Liabilities and Networth, he said he is not obliged to reveal his dollar accounts under Republic Act No. 6426 (Foreign Currency Deposit Act.)
He dramatically brought out a piece of paper which turned out to be a waiver for the disclosure of all his peso and dollar deposits and signed it. The waiver authorized all government agencies BIR,AMLAC, SEC, LRA to disclose his assets and liabilities as well as that of his wife.
But on condition that the 188 congressmen who signed the Articles of Impeachment and Sen. Franklin Drilon also sign the same waiver in the spirit of transparency and accountability that the public demands.
In the evening, he was brought to Medical City. Wednesday morning,Medical City doctors said he was brought to the Intensive Care Unit where he was being monitored for a possible heart attack for 48 to 72 hours.
Ibang klase ang paawa effect sa wheelchair habang nagmamakaawa si cueva kay JPE..
Through a text message sent by Estrada s spokesperson Margaux Salcedo, the former president also said the lockdown that Enrile ordered to prevent Corona from leaving the Senate building should have been done during his impeachment trial in 2001.
Yan ang dapat ginawa noong nag-walkout ang prosecution sa impeachment ko, pinasara ang mga pinto. That s a blatant disrespect to the impeachment court, especially to the presiding officer, said Estrada.
wow ..bravo!!! o01 a masterpiece from the narration to the walkout ,,sinu kaya ang script writter.. all along gusto lang nya lumabas sa tv..give him the best drama actor award, best drama actress gloria pandak.. lahat pati defense team good actors and actresses dont tell me they did not know the script… nag bago lang ng kaunti un script nung pinasara ni sen enrile un pinto.. nag adlib kagad un best actor..un ang plan B. if he is not convicted after all these,, well i suppose lets not even try to get scarborough island..
He is just too scared to face the prosecutors. Atty. Bautista must have rattled him. Baustita was like a bulldog straining on his lease just raring to go for Corona’s jugular. And he sure got scared silly at the thought of having to answer the Senators’ questions, too.
A brief summary of Corona’s performance: o01
The three stooges Quicho, Salvador, Jimeno and the mobster’s Judd were immediately all over the media saying “no, no, it was not really a walk-out. He just did not understand. He was just not feeling well. He did not understand o01 the situation.”
Corona’s going through the motion of signing his waiver, distributing copies of it to the senators…only to say immediately after that he would issue this waiver only if the 189 congressmen and the senators did the same..was the vilest most insulting slap on the face of the senators.
Re #4 news item – Mas ginusto ko na hindi pinasara ang mga exits ng Senate at hinayaan o01 na lang tumakas si Chief. alam naman ni Chief kung ano consequences kung hindi sya magpapa cross examine.
