There are numerous organisms that are composed of geometric shapes, and most of them can also be described mathematically. One of the most exciting forms that recur, the elegant spiral. Two spiral directions
Taking up a pine cone, you will quickly see that it consists of spirals. Hold it by the stem against you, you see a spiral arcing from the center and out to the right, while another bend to the left. But the two spiral directions are not symmetrical. The right has a flatter great n course and often consists of 8 spirals. Left Helio rises steeper and has 13 spirals. Less cones can be made up of respectively great n 8 and 5 spirals.
Just as the seeds in a sunflower growing cone seeds in this way to be able to sit as closely as possible. This tile pattern is a rational structure, great n providing space for more seeds in the smallest possible space. Fibonacci
The figures described the number of spirals in pine cones is part of Fibonacci- numbers row. These numbers can describe many forms and phenomena of nature, emerges in that each number in the row is the sum of the previous two; 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55 and so on.
Snail is another obvious example of nature's many spiral forms. They are made up of three-dimensional spirals called a helix, which is the Latin word for snail. Also many shells forming spiral shapes.
Just as for cones, it is easy to recognize spiral shapes in pineapple, both in the fructan and the green leaves. Also in flowers thistles and daisies, we recognize the same pattern. The horns of mountain goats are also twisted like a spiral. And everyone has seen the spider's impressive catch-line.
But it is not just the details and minor forms in nature that are built up by spiral principle. The stars are forming huge spiral nebulae. These galaxies can be seen that the spiral arms of dust, gas and young stars. Our milk road system is such a spiral galaxy.
